About Batiks Etcetera

Tag: Carol Britt @ 11:49 am

Welcome to Batiks Etcetera! Pictured is me, Carol Britt, the owner of Batiks Etcetera. I will be doing most of the writing on the blog until I work out the kinks.

We specialize in wonderful hand batiked and hand dyed fabrics. Treat yourself to the expressive, colorful world of Indonesian and Malaysian batiks. Choose a color, a theme, or a company and sample the wonders we have for sale.

About Us-
Batiks Etcetera was started by Jan Smiley in 1994 out of pure passion for these wonderful, hand batiked, hand dyed, and hand-woven fabrics. Although a dedicated and well traveled shopper could find a few batiks at many different locations, Jan was frustrated that no one source stocked all the designs in all of the available colors.

Batiks Etcetera outgrew Jan’s home and was sold to Carol Britt of Sew What Fabrics in 1999. Carol added Batiks Etcetera to her already thriving store opened in 1982 in Wytheville, Virginia. Sew What Fabrics was already known for unusual fabrics, lots of batiks, and excellence in customer service. Batiks Etcetera was a good fit for Sew What Fabrics.

Sew What Fabrics & Batiks Etcetera is a retail quilt shop located in southwestern Virginia at the intersection of interstate 81 and 77. Carol and her staff offers gourmet cotton, superb services, and stimulating classes. The shop is located in a home built in 1840 in historic Wytheville. The entire Batiks Etcetera selection is on display at the 4,400 square foot retail shop open Monday – Saturday, 10 AM – 5:30PM.

Many people are surprised to find such a broad selection of quilting supplies and fabric when they visit Batiks Etcetera & Sew What Fabrics. Only a fraction of what we offer to the public has made it to our web site. We are working on adding more and more to the site. If you are looking for a printed cotton, give us a call or email us. We may just have it!

Is the Quilt Shop Rally on the calendar for 2012? If so what are the dates, please. Love your shop and your site.

  20. Carol Britt says:

    Hi Joyce,

The Quilt Shop Rally will be July 12 – 15 this year. We are trying the new date to get away from graduations in May.

Our theme is the Dogwood Days of Summer. We will be introducing an exclusive dogwood batik that comes in 12 color possibilities. Each shop will design a project using their choices of the featured dogwood. The instructions will be available free at each shop.

    We are excited!
    Carol

Thanks Joanie! I’m glad you enjoyed it. The Quilt Shop Rally was grand fun. And I’m glad you like our shop and my wonderful employees. We will do it again next July – new theme but same weekend: July 11 – 14, 2013. Carol
